Nyarlathotep ■ Stop-Motion Puppet

Nyarlathotep, the editor, is “God of a Thousand Forms” in Lovecraft myth - sometimes the crawling mist, sometimes the Egyptian pharaoh. He literally has a thousand forms and is the only god that would interact with mortals. We take the most well-known form of a slender tentacled humanoid as its design basis. As an editor, Nyarlathotep is neat and decent. Bat becomes the major inspiration because he is also the father of bat and only appears at night in our story. We do not want our Nyarlathotep to be generic and a mess of muscles. So we put the bat face into his face. The features are well-defined but no one can tell what they are. A  “Window of Abyss” on his forehead is inspired by the Mouth of Hell myth. As he is neat but chaotic in nature, he is not strictly symmetrical. He is like always suppressing his emotion. In other words, he is a thing of conflict. Features change when he is angry, such as changing the size of the window of Abyss and like engulfing everything, liquid dripping from the window. In his angry scene, I aim for a slight taste of Brothers Quay. IF he had a voice, he would sound like Agent Smith in Matrix.

Its costume is hand-made by my mother and father.
